The 6th edition of the Pension Funds and Alternative\nInvestments Africa Conference was\nheld on March 15-16, 2023, at the Le Meridien Hotel. The conference, organized by AMETrade, brought\ntogether over 200 delegates from 15 countries to provide a common platform\nfor the investor community to share\nopportunities. Mr. Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, emphasized\nin his keynote address that investors are shifting their focus to Africa to tap into a booming consumer market where investments can find long-term value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister\nspoke of the important role of Mauritius for cross-border investments into Africa and pointed out\nthat the Mauritius International Financial\nCentre is key to driving quality foreign direct investments in the Continent. He underscored that the\ninvestment from Mauritius into Africa represents 9% of overall\nforeign investment into the Continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur mantra, Mauritius for Africa, will continue to fulfil its\npromise of delivering on the Africa We Want as envisioned in the African\nUnion Commission\u2019s 2063 Agenda\u201d, he observed. The shift to a more productive, sustainable and equitable growth through investment in new green\nand digital technologies was also underlined by the Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Mr. Seeruttun spoke of the introduction of special tax regimes and the recent launch of the Variable\nCapital Companies, an attractive structure\nfor various types of funds.
