{"id":2168,"date":"2023-03-29T19:19:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T15:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.archglobalconsult.com\/?p=2168"},"modified":"2023-03-29T19:19:05","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T15:19:05","slug":"democracy-index-2022-mauritius-remains-only-full-democracy-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.archglobalconsult.com\/democracy-index-2022-mauritius-remains-only-full-democracy-in-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Democracy Index 2022: Mauritius remains only \u201cfull democracy\u201d in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) published its Democracy Index\n(the \u201cIndex&#8221;) for the year 2022, an edition which generated high expectations for its analysis of the state of global\ndemocracy after major lifting of pandemic- related\ncurbs worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By assessing the scores across five categories \u2013 electoral process and pluralism, functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties \u2013 the Index classifies each country under four types of regimes, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Full democracy;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Flawed democracy;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hybrid regime; and<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Authoritarian regime<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\nspot, and with an overall score of 8.14, Mauritius enters the rank of \u201cfull democracy&#8221; and remains the only\nnation in Africa to fall under this regime.\nThis prime position is testament to how Mauritius emerges as a robust democratic and economic model in the region as it depicts\nthe country faring as well\nas member countries of the G20 ranked in the Top 20<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Australia, Canada,\nGermany, Japan and the United Kingdom).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a more\nglobal perspective, the Index which provides a snapshot of the state of democracy worldwide across 165\nindependent states and two territories further\nhighlights that 72 out of these countries\/territories covered\ncan be democracies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) published its Democracy Index (the \u201cIndex&#8221;) for the year 2022, an edition which generated high expectations for its analysis of the state of global democracy after major lifting of pandemic- related curbs worldwide.
